MEMO

To:- Tony Blair

Hi Tony,
I have seen reported somewhere that you are much concerned as to how you will be regarded by the historians of the future; that you are anxious to ensure that they get the right ideas about you and your contributions to world affairs. Well, let me put you out of your misery and tell you just how, as I see it, it will be.

Using a fairly broad brush you will, I believe, come to be most regarded retrospectively as a liar, warmonger and murderer. I can envisage circumstances where the word ‘coward’ might also come into the equation. You will, of course, go down as the first British Prime Minister in over 60 years whose antics have resulted in multiple, sustained and repeated bombing attacks on London resulting in the police, for whom I have a lot of sympathy, running around in circles arresting and / or shooting the innocent along with the guilty. If you persist with this nonsense that the farce in Iraq has had, and continues to have, no bearing on the terrorist activity currently being directed towards us then there is little doubt in my mind that you will also be written off as an idiot. However, as, in practise, you appear to many to have so very little regard for the truth, it may well be that you will escape this final humiliation, however true it very probably is, in that your claims vis-à-vis matters in Iraq will just not be believed. Realistically, I suppose, with upwards of 35,000 deaths standing to your credit (jointly with Bush et al.) it is hardly likely that you are going to admit any responsibility for anything – politicians never do – do they?

Listening to you (and Bush) preaching at your fellow terrorists makes me cringe. Listening to you both claiming an association with the Christian faith makes my stomach heave and my skin crawl. If ever there was an association of political convenience – that is it. Hypocrisy par excellence. I am sorry if this hurts, but the truth is frequently very hurtful. As I see it, all aspiring despots, as pretty well all Prime Ministers seem to be, will do what they have to do, and are able to get away with, in the environment within which they find themselves, in order to achieve their desired ends. I can see absolutely no reason for assuming that you would have behaved any differently to Saddam Hussein, Adolph Hitler or even Genghis Khan if you had found yourself, with your ambitions, in their circumstances instead of your own. They all claimed, at one time or another, along with the Spanish Inquisition and many others, that God was on their side.

Just in passing, and acknowledging that pretty well all politicians are only semi-literate which is why there is so much incompetently written gobbledegook in the statute book, why don’t you look up the words terrorist and terrorism in a good English dictionary? From your use of these words you quite obviously do not know their actual meanings so you will be in for something of a surprise. There is, in this respect, some excuse for your mate Bush. He is an American and they haven’t used English for more than two centuries. Having done this, try looking up those same words in an American dictionary and then in a French dictionary - you’ll be in for an even bigger surprise. You could also try looking in a Russian and a Chinese dictionary. I haven’t tried this as I have no knowledge of the languages but I suspect that these definitions could be an absolute revelation. At this point you just might, by stretching your obviously very limited intelligence to the limit, just begin to understand why you, Bush, Chirac and others of similar ilk look the right bunch of pillocks that you do when you collectively try to discuss the subject.

Whilst you are at it you could try looking up the word democracy. It might bring it home to you that there are very few of them about and that we certainly do not live in one!  It has obviously escaped your attention that language is a tool developed exclusively to facilitate communication. If we do not all use this tool according to the same set of rules then we do not communicate. If we deliberately vary the rules to suit our own ends then we cause confusion – a very useful political tool as you know only too well! Finally, in this current context, may I recommend to you, a so called Christian believer, the Gospel according to St. Matthew chapter 5 – you might even learn something.

Now, I am, after all, only one of the disillusioned peasants. One of those increasingly disillusioned peasants increasingly staying away from the polls in our increasingly farcical apology for a so called democracy because we cannot stomach voting for the crap which the present system puts before us for election. One of those increasingly disillusioned peasants that one of your more half-witted Cabinet confederates (name of Boone or Doone or Goon or something very similar) apparently wishes to drive to the polls like cattle in order to give some credence to an increasingly less than democratic system.  However, you might do well to notice that it is the young, disillusioned and frustrated peasants that are lashing out at society in the unconstructive, unproductive and increasingly violent manner currently described as terrorism. It is the young, disillusioned and frustrated peasants who have not yet learned that in any field of human endeavour it is and, indeed, almost invariably always has been, the biggest bastard who gets to the top. It is the young, disillusioned and frustrated peasants who have not yet learned that the best that the rest of us can do, in order to survive, is to keep our heads down and make the best of it.

As the world gets ever smaller, communications get ever better, travel gets ever easier, knowledge progressively reaches ever more of the underpriviledged masses and man's inherent tribal nature is ever increasingly misdirected for personal gain - the situation can only get worse. I, like you, though I suspect for very different reasons strongly disapprove of this violent behaviour. However, unlike you, yourself a pseudo-legal terrorist but, by definition, a terrorist nevertheless, I can (without condoning it) understand why they do it. I can understand the feeling of helpless frustration that results from watching the likes of you satiating their unquenchable lust for power and of being able to do nothing constructive to control it. In the very unlikely event that you are going to achieve any solution to this problem then this is an understanding that you are going to have to develop very quickly but, quite frankly, I do not think that you are capable of achieving this.

It is very noticeable that the countries of this world whose politicians do not so suffer from delusions of grandeur or economic greed (or both) that they are driven by there own egos to ponce about on the world stage (with their make-up on at our expense) poking their extraordinarily long, busy, greedy and very dirty noses into other peoples’ business, and who at the same time manage to operate, at home, some acceptable form of pseudo democracy do not, on the whole, suffer from terrorism. I wonder why?  But there, I’ve only lived for 73 years and, having seen off 13 British Prime Ministers, 11 American Presidents, 2 French Republics, 4 French Presidents, God knows how many Italian governments and a host of scheming, thieving, and, on the whole, quite incompetent Chancellors of the Exchequer -  the whole shooting match, observed from where I’m standing, intent primarily on satisfying their own egos, getting their snouts in the trough (occasionally along with their apparently equally greedy and ambitious wives), feathering their own nests and to the devil with the rest of the planet, what the hell do I know !?

However, I have come eventually to the sobering realisation that any one, at all, who wants to participate in politics whether ‘democratically’, oligarchically or dictatorially in any field or sphere of influence is, by definition, going to be totally unsuitable. The inevitable result is, has always been and will continue to be the world shambles that we enjoy today. The world, for the most part, progresses, if that is the right word, in spite of the leaders with whom it is so out of touch - not because of them. Without the active cooperation of the people you are, observably, incapable of enforcing the mountain of legislation that we already have which is why, here, 90% of parliamentary and local government legislation is totally ignored, whenever possible, by 90% of an ever increasingly undisciplined population.

It is also why further, inevitably ill-conceived, legislation would be witless, useless, counter productive and directed solely toward the inception of a police state. This, in turn, will produce the complete change in our way of life that you are so insistent that terrorism will not achieve - thus doing the terrorists’ job for them. Of course, your very limited intellect, with its very constrained compass, will be apt to think only in terms of legislation – and for good reason. Legislation tends to bring greater power to governments; governments are run by politicians and power is the opiate of the political zealot. It is as irresistible to them as is Heroin to the drug addict.

There’s an awful lot more that I could say but, as you will be completely disinterested and, if you are bothering to read this at all, by now becoming incredibly bored, why should I bother?  Suffice to say that the state of our country and, indeed the world, today are consequent upon the farce over which you have, for some years to some extent, visibly and noisily presided and to which you have in no small measure contributed. As I see it, you, and the rest of the amateur, totally unqualified, rubbish that fiddles, cons. or forces its way into positions of trust and authority on this planet, are largely to blame for the predicaments with which we find ourselves confronted. You are at the top; you are the cause; you are the problem – the ‘buck’ stops with you. Stop pretending that you are important and start behaving as if you are what you should be in a democracy – the SERVANT of the people.

You have been elected, not because you are any good, not because we like you and certainly not because we trust you but because at the material time you were the lesser of two evils and consequently we loathed and distrusted the other lot rather more than we did you. For once in your God forsaken life ask the people what they want without, at the same time, trying, by various devious means, to push them in the direction that you wish them to go. As it is, if you are expecting history to look kindly upon you and your contributions to life on this planet then you really must be off your head – but then, as I see it, we here today, already know that.

E. & O.E.

Without Prejudice.
